Reflections on life from 40-something

The nose knows

December28

Have I mentioned in all these jokes I’ve made about plastic surgery that I have a huge nose? It’s like the major inheritance from my maternal side. That and cancer. And yet, not one member of my family has had rhinoplasty. Not one. And, you know, some of us, maybe we could have used it, if we had thought about it.

I must admit that even as I say my nose is huge, that it is really quite petite compared to some of my kinfolk. In fact………..my one uncle (really, a cousin, but you know how we are down here, everybody is an uncle) he had a child that we did not know about. And when she finally tracked us down, we read the letter, and were understandably shocked, and all that. And then she sent a picture. I looked at that thing, and looked at my cousin (really a cousin this time, somewhat removed, but cousin nonetheless–the same one who sends me some of the jokes I share) and I said “well, look at that nose, she’s obviously one of us”, and we both laughed! Poor thing, all she got from a dad she never knew was a schnoz the size of Manhattan. And lots of fun-nee cousins and uncles and aunts and such.

December27

Today, I will continue my “light” workload. I want to clear off my dresser, dry the comforter, wash a load of towels, and deal with a couple of baskets of clothes that were washed over Christmas and left on the freezer. There’s so much more that needs doing, of course.

Grandmother is having a CT scan done today, but I don’t know when we’ll get the results back.

Guess I’ll get up and get started. The sooner I am done, the sooner I can sit and knit and play with the kids.

HP Coupons

December27

Need some new toys? You know, big kids toys: computers, cameras, gizmos and gadgets! Don’t buy anything electronic without checking out these HP Coupons. They also list the latest deals from HP. The deals are updated hourly, and they have detailed buying instructions, so you can be sure to get the savings. I’ve had great service from all my HP products, which have included several computers, the same number of printers and a camera.

December26

Since I now live with the boobs of doom that blaze and burn if I go about life in my usual manner, I’ll be scaling back my agendas. Today’s plan includes clearing the wicker basket in my room (already done) and 2-3 loads of laundry start to finish (1 load ready for the dryer now.) Other than that I plan to sit and knit, and hang out with the kids (one game of dominoes already). I need to do a bit of web-work as well, but will not be spending the whole day working on that.

Geico

December24

“GEICO added “Teens and Trucks” to its online library of safe driving materials for teen drivers. The brochure, developed with the American Moving and Storage Association, includes valuable information for teens on how to safely share the highway with large trucks. The GEICO teen safe driving Web site is located at geico.com/auto/safety. While the information is helpful to drivers of all ages, GEICO is particularly interested in providing teens with this information when they first learn to drive.”

I guess the trick now is just getting them to slow down long enough to read it. This information is brought to you by CarInsurance.com, where you can shop for a great car insurance rate.

Second Verse

December24

Same as the first!
A little bit louder, a little bit worse.

I have mastitis again/still. Other side this time. I don’t know whether to greet it as an old friend, or just lop off the offending boob and be done with it.

Good news: Now those brand new size 8 jeans are TOO BIG. Bad News: I’m really not trying to lose weight. Does anyone know exactly how long a person can live on stress and caffeine? With or without mastitis: I’ll extrapolate.

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus. And it’s me! Am I the only one who gets a rush out of doing this parental deed? It’s like……proof you are a grown-up when YOU get to be Santa, LOL!

Nostalgia

December24

As I sit here, waiting for the last two hold outs to pass out/go to bed, I am surfing the net and getting ready to pump. I found this site, full of games from yesteryear. It reminded me of my early teens, when I would go to the skating rink, and play Q-bert. It was a funny little arcade game, you just hopped the guy from one square to another and they changed colors. I really enjoyed that game, and haven’t played in probably 25 years. Funny the things you recall. Well, they don’t have old Q-bert at Arcade-Cow, but they are still a cure for boredom. And also sleepless nights.

I’ve had quite a few of those recently as various sick children have ended up in my bed, either leaving me no room at all, or pummeling me through the night. Ah, the simple pleasures of wee toes in your thighs or kidneys. Nor should we forget the elbows in the chest, and flying hands landing on your nose.

I found a wee giftie this morning

December24

I have long ago given up the battle against the grey in my hair. Like, 10 years or more ago. Today, I found a white hair in. my. eyebrow. Merry Christmas! Ha!

I'm Cass. I am a full-time mom to eight great children, a Christian and a blogger. I'm also a knitter, a reader and a movie watcher. And a collector of eclectic oddities.

For the first time in 18 and a half years, I have my own little corner again. Somewhere along the way, I seem to have lost myself, and now that I realize I'm missing, I'm on the look out for me. You maybe don't know what that means, but then again, maybe you do. Regardless, this is where I'll be when I'm not being a mother or a knitter. This is where I'll be just me. And if no one ever reads it, that's ok. I'll know it's here.
