A Manmade Wonder

January27

I was reading today about the Dubai Marina. It’s man made, and oh, is it beautiful.

Dubai is part of the United Arab Emirates, but oil accounts for only 6% of it’s GDP. The economy relies heavily on tourism, and that’s not a surprise given the beauty of the place. In addition to the Marina, the Palm Islands are fantastical. These are also man-made, and visible from the moon.

The World Islands are another man-made feature of Dubai, but I’ll let you Google for your own picture. I am impressed that the government of Dubai has invested so much into creating these appealing features, especially in an area most people think of as austere.

Oh, one more thing: guess how they attract people to work/live/build in Dubai? Minimal income tax!

I'm Cass. I am a full-time mom to eight great children, a Christian and a blogger. I'm also a knitter, a reader and a movie watcher. And a collector of eclectic oddities.

For the first time in 18 and a half years, I have my own little corner again. Somewhere along the way, I seem to have lost myself, and now that I realize I'm missing, I'm on the look out for me. You maybe don't know what that means, but then again, maybe you do. Regardless, this is where I'll be when I'm not being a mother or a knitter. This is where I'll be just me. And if no one ever reads it, that's ok. I'll know it's here.
