Appetite Suppressant

February23

Last night, we had leftovers, accompanied by the ritual cleaning of the refrigerator. You know what you should never forget in the back of your frig? Broccoli. Because, the smell, it works better than hoodia for suppressing the appetite. I dumped the offensive mess, closed the container back up, and dh took out the garbage, and the kitchen still stank. And when I opened the container again to put it in the dishwasher, we got a fresh wave. Blech!

Papa’s cuckoo

February23

Today, I will share a story about a grandfather clock. Not one like you are thinking of, but my grandfather’s clock. Papa has always had a wicked sharp wit (yes, it’s a family trait, LOL), and from the time I remember, he’s had a cuckoo clock. When I was very young, he would look at me when it went off and say, “Denise, that clock thinks you are cuckoo”. And then he’d laugh. And I would laugh, too. You should have seen the look on his face the first time I turned the tables on him. He just looked at me a second, and said, “Well, I think you must be right,” and then he laughed quite a while. The first time DD#1 was old enough to take a joke, he pulled the same trick on her.

Booking Through Thursday- Writing in Books, Part 2

February22

A couple weeks ago, we asked about how you take care of your books, with one of the questions asking whether you write in your books. Well, what about books that are meant to be written in? Like, say, a journal or diary? Do you keep one? Obviously, if you’re answering this, you have a blog–do you just let your blog be your journal? Or do you also keep one for private stuff also?
I used to keep written journals, but I don’t anymore. It’s all on the blogs now: what I do over on CassKnits! and who I am right here. I do have real journals for the children, but I don’t write in them. I mean to, but it doesn’t happen. I said I was going to make a monthly schedule. Those journals will be on it.

Janey and Papa

February22

Some years ago, about 15, in fact, DD#1 and I came home for Christmas, and Papa and Aunt Janey came down from Anson County and took us out to Carolina Beach. I have some pictures that Papa took that day. They look like commercials for Outer Banks Rentals. I’d share them, but of course, they aren’t digital.

I remember Janey’s easy laughter that day, and how her blue eyes sparkled like the ocean. I miss Janey. She died several years ago from cancer, and that was one of our last times together before she was diagnosed. She was absolutely my favorite aunt. Relations on that side of my family are fairly weird, but Janey seemed to treasure me always, just for being me. There was never any awkwardness between us, even when my interactions with the rest of the family were punctuated by long periods of silence.

Still working on it

February22

I’m still spending time working on CassKnits! I had about 1600 posts to re-categorize, and I have done about 210. I didn’t give you a morning musings today, because the plan was so stark: site maintenance and laundry. That’s it. Nothing earth shattering there.

I never thought I would find myself wearing a webmaster’s hat, but I have been assured that anyone with nine blogs is either a webmaster, or insane. Since, I vastly prefer the title WebMaster to Lunatic, I’ll pick that one!

Politics Forum

February22

I just have to share this! I’ve found a politics forum! I poked around quite a bit and it seems the forum was just opened in November, so it’s still quite new. I was quite pleased to see an area for political jokes. So often people get all wrapped up in the seriousness of politics, and forget how funny it can be. Yes, it is indeed serious business, but a sense of humor can certainly help defuse tensions. I also like the Political History area, history being one of my favorite subjects!

If you back out of the forum to the front page, there are links to many of the major news sources. That seems pretty balanced with the NYT represented as well as FOX. If they’d add the CSM to the list, I think that would be a pretty good one-stop headline shop. It’s handy to have them in one area, and nice to be able to see what’s going on in the world before you enter the forum proper.

I'm Cass. I am a full-time mom to eight great children, a Christian and a blogger. I'm also a knitter, a reader and a movie watcher. And a collector of eclectic oddities.

For the first time in 18 and a half years, I have my own little corner again. Somewhere along the way, I seem to have lost myself, and now that I realize I'm missing, I'm on the look out for me. You maybe don't know what that means, but then again, maybe you do. Regardless, this is where I'll be when I'm not being a mother or a knitter. This is where I'll be just me. And if no one ever reads it, that's ok. I'll know it's here.
