Reflections on life from 40-something

Shipwrecked

March27

Skeet has tagged me with a meme. I’m supposed to name five bloggers that I would like to have with me on a deserted island, besides her. She has to be there because she is such a wonderful story-teller.

I’d like to have both Ann and Ang with me, because their strong faith would help keep my focus where it needs to be.

I’d like to have Carla, because she spins as well as knits, and between us, we can brainstorm a pattern for anything. We may have to use bizarre fibers for our yarn, but knitting there will be.

I’d like to have Amy, because she’s an inspiration to me and many others, and I think she doesn’t even try to be, it’s just who she is.

And, I’d like to have Deb, because she is the most unflappable person I know.

Carnival of the Redeemed - March 27, 2007

March27

Welcome to the March 27, 2007 edition of Carnival of the Redeemed.

Joysoriano.com presents Prayer of a Battered Wife posted at A DIFFERENT PRAYER, saying, “This is one of the prayers I wrote to help those who find it hard to pray at times they need to the most. This one deals with the prayer of a battered wife. Exhausted, shamed and in despair, words seemed insufficient to turn one’s cries into a meaningful prayer, but one has to start somewhere, and God bless me if I could help one soul utter her first words of prayer.”

KevinL presents Proverbs 11:25 and Pizza Delivery posted at Pizza Delivery Stories, another awesome story relating work to the WORD.

DeputyHeadmistress presents Pain in the Pews posted at The Common Room. Poignant.

Matthew Paulson presents Why God Doesn’t Answer Your Prayers About Money posted at Getting Green. It’s a good reminder.

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of Carnival of the Redeemed on the carnival home page. You can also find past editions there. The next edition will run on April 10th.

Sunday Sermon-Being Smelly

March26

2 Corinthians 2:12-17

12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened to me by the Lord, 13 I had no rest in my spirit, because I did not find Titus my brother; but taking my leave of them, I departed for Macedonia. 14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things? 17 For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

There were several things pastor talked about in relation to these verses, but one of the most striking was his description of the “triumphs” of Ancient Rome. These were massive events that lasted about 3 days. The wealth of the conquered nations was displayed, along with their armaments and the captives, including the vanquished king. This is the kind of victory procession Paul was talking about when he said God leads us in triumph. It’s a noun, not an adjective!

We should lie in such a way that the smell of Christ is on us and in us, that we are part of Christ, inseparable. This he compared to a fruit smoothie. It is so mixed up together that you can no longer pick out the separate elements, it has become one thing.

Finally, he discussed the term peddling. The Greek word for this implies dishonesty, and selling shoddy goods for a quick buck. So Paul’s point was that he was offering the true gospel, and not doing it for personal gain.

Morning Musings 3/26/2007

March26

Good Morning, ya’ll. After last week’s push to get the bedrooms shoveled out, I am more than ready to get back to what passes for a normal schedule around here. I’m on my second cuppa, and then I’ll get on with the day.

I do need to go to the library today to return books, and I’d also like to get back to the deep cleaning of the main areas of the house. I’ll just start doing a small section per day again, and I’ll start back at the front door so I can get an immediate sense of accomplishment.

I’ve also got a new project going that will eat up a bit of time, but you’ll have to wait to hear about it for just a little longer.

Suni is a Supahstar!

March24

Today I am again catching up on my Supahstars. Suni was the highlighted blogger on March 3rd, and I do believe I have mentioned her a time or two before. She made all the buttons for my carnivals. She just gave Bucket O’Bulletz a nice face-lift. I love her new look: clean, simple and sweet.

Like me, Suni is a multi-blogger, and she explains her segmentation system succinctly in this post. I like that she keeps things so neat and orderly. You’ll notice that she has even more blogs than I do, and I really wasn’t sure that was possible.

I’m back!

March23

I am finally caught up with what I had planned to do in the house this week. Well, close enough. I had hoped to get the main rooms tackled, but that did not happen. Still two bathrooms and 3 bedrooms are not bad for a week’s work when you consider I washed every piece of clothing that 6 children own. I coulda been done a little earlier if I had rolled out a couple of exercise mats and just slept in front of the machines, but I figured given my tendencies to insomnia and my gimpy hip, I might better sleep in the bed.

So! Now it’s time to turn my attention back to some semblance of regular life, including !tada! blogging. I’ve missed it! I know I’ve posted some, but not nearly what I wanted to. Cleaning gives you plenty of time to think of things to say, but doesn’t leave nearly enough time to say them, LOL!

QotW

March23

I’ve joined a new weekly meme-type thing, and it is hosted by Work at Home Musings. You’ll see a tab up above that has the list of participants, it’s the one called “QotW”. Each week on Monday, she’ll ask a question for us to answer on our blogs. You are seeing mine on Friday, because I apparently cannot read anymore, and I was expecting the question TODAY. I told ya’ll I was losing my mind!

This week’s question (she asked on monday, ya’ll, just sayin’) is:

How many hours a week do you spend on your home business? Do you think it is too much or too little?

I aim to spend at least three hours a day working. I find that I typically work at least 5. This week, I’ve not been working as much because I have been concentrating on spring cleaning instead. As for too much or too little, it’s both. It’s too much when I don;t get to spend as much time with my family as I’d like, and too little when I don;t get all I need to do done, which is most of the time.

I am a genius

March22

Oh, yes, I am! In fact, I am so smart, I deserve a vacation at one of those fancy Tuscany villas. My washer is fixed. Remember I said it was making a horrible noise, but dh couldn’t find anything wrong with it? Well, last night, as I was writhing in agony from my hip, it came to me out of the blue: “that machine is not level.” Sure enough, I had dh check it this afternoon, and behold, that machine was not level. It was off just a touch, not enough to see with the naked eye, and not even enough to move the bubble completely out of the “good zone”. But enough to make the basket unbalance with every spin cycle. And that is why, today, I am a genius.

I'm Cass. I am a full-time mom to eight great children, a Christian and a blogger. I'm also a knitter, a reader and a movie watcher. And a collector of eclectic oddities.

For the first time in 18 and a half years, I have my own little corner again. Somewhere along the way, I seem to have lost myself, and now that I realize I'm missing, I'm on the look out for me. You maybe don't know what that means, but then again, maybe you do. Regardless, this is where I'll be when I'm not being a mother or a knitter. This is where I'll be just me. And if no one ever reads it, that's ok. I'll know it's here.
