Midlife Musings

I was looking at my keyword hits this morning. This site does ok (second page) for “humor in times of crisis”, “midlife blogs” and an awesome #6 slot for the phrase “midlife humor”. Interestingly enough, I also get hits for my friend Ang.’s full name. (Umm, Ang., someone is searching the internet for your full name. Just sayin’). And I am number four!! Four, ya’ll!! for “avoiding midlife crisis”. That’s kind of exciting for a little blog where I write about whatever is on my mind, ya know?

All that has happened organically, without me really trying. The fact is that I don’t know what I want to rank high for in the search engines. I think that if I were going to try text link advertising, I might go with “midlife”, because I would like to be higher there. SubmitAWebsite.com offers that, but I have no idea how much it costs. Perhaps if things slow down, I can give them a call.

See, that’s the other part of the deal for me. I may be in midlife, but this is a fast midlife. Things are not slowing down for me, and in fact, I am busier than ever, and stand to get exponentially busier over the next few years. What would I do with a #1 ranking website? Besides giggle, I mean. I’m juggling as fast as I can already.

I made an appointment for the dentist the other day. I’m going on the 24th of September. I haven’t been to the dentist in about 4 years, because we haven’t had insurance, and I am actually looking forward to getting my teeth cleaned. You know I posted about wanting them whitened a while back, and now that I don’t smoke…..yeah, it’s time. This first visit is just for a check-up, though; I’ll have to go back to get the actual cleaning done. I can deal with that, I suppose, since I have waited this long.

I was looking at the pictures on this Beverly Hills dental group site, today, though, and thinking that it would be cool if these before and after tooth whitening pictures were mine. I can already tell a difference, so maybe there’s hope.

Joy is a promise. Not happiness. Joy. There’s a difference, and it’s one many people miss. Myself included.

Not only is joy a promise, it’s a choice. That’s right. I can choose to be joyful.

I freely admit that it’s it’s easier to claim the promise and choose joy when one is well rested, and has had time to pee, but nonetheless, there it is.

cared enough to take Drama with you tonight like I asked you to, I could have:

sewed a doll
taken a bath
wiped my own butt in peace
not sat here and cried from frustration.

It must be damn nice to get so much time for yourself that you can’t hear someone begging for a moment of peace from the edge of sanity.

Here’s one of mine: Funky shoes and painted toenails. No matter what kind of day it’s been, even if I happen to be wearing socks and closed shoes, I know a secret. I think it makes me look taller, yk? Do it just for you!

I. will. be. so. glad. to . see. fall. ya’ll. It is so hot, and so humid and I am so sweaty. Yuck, and Blech and Ick. It’s sleepy sultry weather and big hair. Like really big and wild hair.

I’ve noticed, though, that the past few nights, I’ve actually wanted to use teh covers. Not a lot, and not all night, but some. The end is in site. Soon I will be laughing at folks who bought Scottsdale real estate to escape the humidity instead of envying them. But not today. Today, while I can hardly breathe, and am beginning to think about investing in gills, it’s not funny one little bit.

Several years ago, there was great discussion over the definition of is. Today, I am privileged (HA!) to be taking part in a discussion over the definition of blog. Exactly what is a blog, and how many links can it have? And if you occasionally post a link for money, does that mean every link you post is for pay, and just how the heck is someone going to tell that, and please, bend over, do you have some vaseline? Perhaps we should intsall some landscape lighting to illuminate the intarwebs, cause some folks obviously just don’t get it.

I was reading some information about a russian brides agency, and it reminded me of a conversation dh and I had several months ago. We were talking about the proliferation of ED ads, and how that seemed to indicate that there were more problems in America’s bedrooms than there used to be. Now, I know that society is more open about things than it used to be, but when statistics point to a 40% rate of dissatisfaction with our sex lives……………well, I don’t think the Creator designed us with a failure rate of 40%. obviously something is going on with that, ykwim?

I posited to dh that perhaps it was women who were causing the majority of ED, and that perhaps it was difficult to be bossed around by a woman all day, and then take the confident sexual lead at night, that effectively women spend all day creating eunuchs and then wonder why they have trouble performing in the bedroom. He agreed with me that I was likely correct. And I made a note of one more thing “women’s lib” has cost us.

Oh, what was it that reminded me of the conversation?

Most Russian brides are looking for a life partner on this site. They prefer to get to know a person before creating a more serious bond or marriage. Russian and Ukrainian brides are different from brides of other countries because marriage is normally their main priority from early age. Even young Russian women strive to create a family first and only afterwards they think about building a career, not visa versa. Dating for most of these women implies marriage and family. Therefore, a relationship with a Russian bride (AKA “mail order brides”) is likely to be different from any affair you have had before. The divorce rate in marriages with Russian women tends to be much lower than with marriages in America, UK and Australia.
Russian brides are famous internationally as the most beautiful women in the world. A typical Russian woman looks like a model. Dating attractive Russian girls is likely to be very different from any local dating experience. Most Russian girls have well-developed family values and instincts. They are intelligent and well-educated. They are also loving, tender and devoted to a relationship.

They are selling the idea that Russian women are everything American women are not. And if they are selling it, someone is buying it.
