Thousands Die as Google Laughs

November16

*begin satire*
Over the past 24 hours, this reporter has watched the infrastructure of the internet dissolve. Thousands upon millions of people have folded up their laptops and walked away from the internets because they can no longer find information that is relevant to them. Visits to once popular blogs have faded away to nothing, and entire banks of internet lights are dark and dismal. The sound of the not-clacking keyboards is overwhelming in it’s unintensity.

And who is at the heart of this disaster? Why, it’s the mythical giant Google, internet monopolizer and pimp of blog whores everywhere. In a stunning move that has left the experts baffled, Google has reduced page ranks to nil, and reduced the amount of traffic they send to blogs by several orders of magnitude.

*end satire*

Or not, yk? Good grief, people, get a grip. The SERPs have not changed. I have seen so many people say they are changing this or that because of the page rank dip. PR is only worth what you can sell it for. If you write relevant, interesting material, people will read it. You give G too much power when you cower in the corner crying and begging for them to stop. Get up, for crying out loud. Get up and do what you do best–WRITE. That’s what got you into this “mess”, and your ability to write is what will get you out.

Or, lay there and take it. You decide.

But, please, quit crying.

I should start selling signs like those “George Washington slept here” signs – except they’d say “Chad W. Smith commented here.” But, you know, that’s kind of what my signature does for me, too. Hmmm… Must figure out how to make this work……

I do agree with what you have said. Google is monopolizing everything already and sometimes I am sick and tired of reading useless articles because of this whole things which is happening right now. I could even read some stuff that isnt worth my time but I think they are placed in the search engine because of high PR. But anyway I have read a lot of people complaining about decreased in PR ranking . I could say that what is important in blogging is not the PR but the people reading the blogs.

Well, I guess I’ll be the odd person out here.
I agree with you up to a point.
It is crucial to focus on good writing skills. Far too many bloggers neglect that, and it shows. Good writing will help build a readership, which is what good blogs should have.

    Here’s the thing, though.
Good writing isn’t enough, if one also wants to use a blog to generate income.
As unpleasant as it is, PR is not dependent on one’s writing skills. It’d be nice if the good writers got the good PR. It doesn’t work that way, though.

“Focus on your writing skills” is good advice, but not when it comes to PR.

The reason PR is so important to so many bloggers is because it directly affects our income. A PR-4 that has been dropped to a PR-1 is a serious problem because it will affect that blogger’s income considerably. Good writing has nothing to do with it, unfortunately. I can absolutely understand why so many bloggers are upset with the Google mess. Their income has been affected. (That doesn’t automatically mean that they’re only keeping a blog for profit. Not at all.)

I know I seem to be getting a little long-winded here. I guess it’s because this is kind of a touchy issue for me, from the other side of the fence. The Google mess IS a serious issue, one that can NOT be fixed simply by concentrating on our writing skills. Google simply doesn’t care how well we can write.

Hopefully the new IZEA/Argus program will change the criteria so PR is no longer important. Maybe then our opp eligibility really will depend on how well we can write, or how large our readership is. If that happens, then yes, I agree with you. Concentrate on the writing, and tell Google to take a flying leap.

Whew. That was a long comment.
    I need a drink of water….

What side of the fence do you think I am on? I am also a professional blogger, and all of my previously PR4 and 3 blogs are now 0. PPP will educate the advertisers, and they will choose different criteria.

I still say write, because the writing will cause people to come, and traffic is the best measure.

I'm Cass. I am a full-time mom to eight great children, a Christian and a blogger. I'm also a knitter, a reader and a movie watcher. And a collector of eclectic oddities.

For the first time in 18 and a half years, I have my own little corner again. Somewhere along the way, I seem to have lost myself, and now that I realize I'm missing, I'm on the look out for me. You maybe don't know what that means, but then again, maybe you do. Regardless, this is where I'll be when I'm not being a mother or a knitter. This is where I'll be just me. And if no one ever reads it, that's ok. I'll know it's here.
