Morning Musings 3/15/2007

I’ve lost my index card box. I’ve looked in all the reasonable places I could have out it, and it’s not in any of them. I have my new cards, but none of the old ones. Yay me. Or not, you know, since I had school notes and also household chores and such on them. I’ll keep looking, needless to say.

Today, I’ll be working on the area where the freezer was. I’ve made a reading nook out of it, complete with lamp and cd player.

Sleepless

I am finally winding down for the evening. I am hopeful that I will sleep better tonight than I did last night. I went to bed at a reasonable hour with a book, and when I closed the book to go to sleep, I just started tossing and turning, wide awake. I came out on laid down on the couch, and watched a movie with DD#1 until I fell asleep. It’s not the best couch in the world, but I did fall asleep after an hour or so. I’m not sure even Powell furniture could have helped last night’s restlessness.

Boom!

I have written extensively about the growth in my not-so-small town and how displeased I am with it. Of course, as this type of growth occurs, housing costs rise. People have to have a place to lay their heads. The realtors here are rubbing their hands with glee, I’ll tell ya. And unfortunately, many of them seem to be leaping into politics to ensure the growth continues without adequate consideration of what the physical limitations of the area are. Surely the growth must be self limiting at some point.

I was surprised to see that Austin, TX is having substantial growth as well. Of course, Austin has a lot more room to spread out in Texas than my little town does here on the coast, and so the boom there is good for local realtors, new residents and the people who already live there. In fact the rising Austin real estate market is good for almost everyone.

If you are looking to get in on the boom in Austin start with these local Austin Texas real estate listings. You can find a realtor at that same site. A good realtor can make such a difference in your move. I think it behooves anyone moving to a new area to find one who will act as a buyer’s agent, especially if you don’t have friends or family in the area who can let you know if you are getting a good deal.

Me? I was blessed. I bought before the boom, and my aunt was my realtor 😉

Inconveniences

I have gotten so used to the convenience of paying bills online that the two or three I have to paying in person are really beginning to aggravate me. Well, DH actually does the paying, but it aggravates me to have to remember before he leaves for the day that I should remind him to pay xyz. I’d pay those online too, but the cretans charge a fee for online credit card processing. My bills are high enough, I don’t want to pay five more dollars, ykwim? They don’t call it that of course, because that’s illegal. They call it a “convenience charge”. Yeah, nothing convenient about it, if you ask me.

Anna Nicole

Seems she’s the buzz everywhere, uh? Well, she’s dead, that’s done, and nothing we can do about it, so I’ve over that. What I am curious about is what’s going on with the baby. I’m really wondering why a judge has ordered her body preserved and kept in official custody until that hearing on the 20th. Surely a paternity test is enough to help the court decide where the child should go, unless they plan to give a body shared custody?????

Dr. Mom

My. daughters. are. crazy. I got some Dimetapp knock off for the baby, as she is awfully snotty lately. So DDs2 and 3 think they have to have it too. There are two problems with this. 1) the dosage foro them is so high that it takes half the wee bottle, and 2)they don’t have the same phlgem-y sounding croupiness that she has, so it’s not the right med for them. The rant comes in because when I try to explain this to them, I get the eyeroll of death (their’s, not mine). I’d ought to make them read a big fat medical health information resource. Web address, guys, web address, not the 8 pound PDR.

And have I mentioned they can do anything they want to do all day long without so much as a clearing of the throat, but when bed time comes around, they get a cough? Yeah. Go to bed, already!

GoGoGirl

I got that wee box of paper and stuff dealt with, except for adding the genealogy records I have on cards to that blog. I am dog meat tired. Asleep at the keyboard, even. The genealogy cards will definitely have to wait until I can see straight. My eyes are seriously crossing from exhaustion.

I have a Bible Study tonight that I committed to go to, but …….if I hadn’t I would crawl into bed as soon as DH walks in that door.

Becca at the door

One of the neighborhood girls came over the other day, soliciting donations for her school something-or-other. Now, it gripes me to no end that schools get all that federal funding and still have fundraisers while I keep my own at home and buy the supplies out of my pocket, but that’s not the point of today’s rant. I also participated in a fund raiser the first year we moved here and have yet to receive the goods I paid for, but that’s also not the point of today’s rant.

Cass-would you just get to the point??? Ok, here it is. The child had been given the “honor” of being in the court for this something-or-other. Whether she got to be queen, princess or lady in waiting *was totally dependent* on how much money she raised. That is just wrong on so many levels. So many levels. Wrong.
