Desk Decor

I have been here at my desk most of the day again, posting on my blogs, and re-catting the posts on Knits. I’m up to page 42 of 160+ pages. I think since I live at this desk, I should get an address plaque for it. It should say
Cass’s Corner
101 Information Superhighway
Internet, NC 28—

Whaddya think? Little embossed dealie? With a cup holder on it for my coffee?

Beat

I have spent mucho time today overhauling CassKnits! today, and I am beat. I spent some time over here, too, but the changes aren’t quite as obvious. I am thinking it’s bedtime!

Dear Family

When I devote my morning to serving your needs, putting up with your whining and kvetching, when I make sure you have food that you refuse to eat, when I ensure that you have clean underoos and socks and then, and only then, I sit down to do my work for which I get paid, which ensures you can continue to live the lifestyle to which you wish to become accustomed, PLEASE for the love of all that is holy, be quiet. Otherwise, someone’s going to drug rehab. I don’t care if it’s you or me, as long as I get three hours of relative quiet per day. Your dad is home now, and I am putting on my earphones and I. Am. Working. I’ll be working while you eat the dinner I planned and checked on this afternoon. I’ll be working while you are chillaxing as a family unit in front of the tv tonight. And I’ll be working long after you are sleeping. I’m working. Thanks!
Love,
MOM

Grokodile

I spent a few minutes tonight listing my blogs at Grokodile. I was so surprised and pleased with it that I wanted to share the word. Grokodile is a regional website directory, and I was dubious when I clicked through, expecting to have to list my blogs under the next town over, if I even decided to list them at all. I was delighted to find my own small town listed!! That never happens!!

Adding my blogs to this blog directory was easy, and very quick. I’m hoping to connect to other area bloggers this way. I’m a bit tired of people looking at me like I have two heads when I say “Hi, I’m Cass, and I’m a blogger.” Heh. Reading that, maybe it does sound a little strange, like bloggers anonymous or something! Oh well, a blogger I am, and I have no intention of “drying out”.

Come on in

Hey, you out there. I’ve been looking at my stats, and while I have not seen a tremendously huge jump in my website traffic, there has been some. What has gone through the roof lately is my rss feed hits. Now, you know who you are, and I really appreciate you visiting, even by proxy. But I don’t want you to feel shy. Come on in through the front door once in a while and give me a shout out in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!

Fired!

If this household were a corporation, and I were in charge of human resource management, I would fire my own self. I had an agenda today, the day is just about over, and I have not done very much at all that was on my list. I have sat here in this chair putting out assorted small internet fires the whole day, except when I was looking at various assorted internet train wrecks. And now, I will have to sit here working all night instead of hanging out with my family, and I am really angry with myself right now. How’s that for a run on sentence and true confession. CASS!! Get to work. And consider this your final written warning.

Tax time

I did our taxes over the weekend, and I am quite pleased with the outcome. I had to guess on my 1099 from PPP, but I know I was pretty close, and can adjust that one number when I get it. I think I may use the refund (and it is a biggie) to get ahead on our mortgage loan, and not have to stress over that so much when times are lean.

One thing people like to do with tax refunds is remodel their home, or make an addition. Now, you know I would love to add on to our home, but even with this good refund, I don’t see being able to do that without a home improvement loan, and I am just not feeling like dealing with a mortgage application. Frankly at this point in my financial life, I would need one of those bad credit remortgages, and I am not about to do that. I think it would be financial suicide.

Although (and this is a secret I haven’t even told DH) I really am wanting a laptop computer that would allow me to work away from this desk, so I could be more involved with the family, even when I am writing. This is a chance to get one without a secured loan quote, so this may be the time to discuss it with him. They frequently go on sale in April, and that’s about when I expect to see the money.

SEO

I have been watching with interest what search terms bring people to my various blogs, and how that is affected by search engine marketing techniques. Now it’s true that I have not done any “official” SEM, but I have added appropriate information in the headers of most of my blogs, and I could see an immediate difference in my placements for various keywords. You may remember that I posted some screenshots of google and yahoo results right after I did that. Those were searches that other people used to get here, btw, not the result of me just typing various phrases in to see what happened, LOL!

One place I can find good information is at the Apogee Search blog, because they write it in a way I can understand, even with no training. I really like it when folks wrote about their area of expertise in words I know! And if I don’t get it, they have an SEO glossary to help me.
